Echoes of the Sea
In the waters of the Gulf of California, sea lions face the consequences of entanglement in abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear. These materials can cause serious injuries, restrict movement, and affect the animals’ ability to feed and survive. Many sea lions die as a result of these entanglements.
Ecos del Mar follows the work of Rescate de Lobos Marinos, a conservation organization based in La Paz, Baja California Sur, as its team locates, captures, and frees entangled sea lions. Through rescue operations, veterinary procedures, and field surgeries, the documentary offers an inside look at the complex work involved in giving these animals a second chance.
Combining underwater footage with the testimonies of the people behind the rescues, Ecos del Mar documents the challenges of responding to marine entanglement while exploring the relationship between local communities, fishing activity, and the wildlife of the Gulf of California.
