The Good Harvest School

Founded in 2016 by Ashita and Anish, The Good Harvest School emerged from a desire to confront the deep educational inequalities faced by girls in rural northern India. In a society shaped by strong patriarchal traditions, many girls are expected to marry young—often before the age of 18—leaving school behind to take on domestic roles. According to a UNICEF study, “women with little or no education are more likely to be married at an early age.”

Set in one of the region’s most economically challenged areas, where families often rely on small-scale farming to make ends meet, the school provides a vital alternative. Many households live with limited resources, and opportunities for stable income are scarce. In this context, access to education becomes not only rare, but revolutionary.

The school is free of charge and offers an education that blends academic learning with agricultural training, giving girls practical skills to achieve economic independence and nourish their communities sustainably.

Despite the significant progress made, the project continues to face major financial challenges. Yet its mission remains firm: to empower girls so they can become leaders and agents of change within their own communities.
